The hues are a matchless pink. But it isn’t simply a clear-cut pink. Nature wonderfully brings with it a gradient from white to baby pink to a dark pink – so rich that it epitomises a kind of purity. A flower in all its beauty, blooming to the fullest. – Theosophical Society, Chennai, India.

Have you ever wondered how this monument was made? No electricity. Only scaffolding. Working until late in the night. With simple tools which are now unknown. With nothing but an oil lamp to aid them and make their art a reality. It is the toil of dedicated, skilled and talented craftspersons and labourers which has given birth to such a beautiful piece of architecture. Needless to say, those arches, pinhole windows and frames are an epitome of classic Rajasthani architecture. Intricacy defines it. – Junargarh Fort, Bikaner, Rajasthan.

His play tool. His earning. His education fee. His mother’s income. His father’s support. This twirling umbrella carries with it the dreams of those innocent eyes. How much something so small can reveal. Unbelievable. – Shot during Ganesh Chaturthi, in Chennai.

TRADITION AT ITS BEST

Movement is ephemeral. Each second it changes. And nothing depicts movement better than dance. Photo taken at the Lakshmi Niwas Palace, Bikaner, Rajasthan, India.

It may be noted that the photograph was taken after consent as it was a performance for an audience.

FACES WITH A STORY

Faces, expressions and colours. All on one wall. Found this in a woodcut shop in Sri Lanka. 🙂 Amazing stuff indeed. 🙂

These are masks that are very famous in Sri Lanka. The shop had so many more faces hanging on the walls. The colours, the expressions, the shapes and sizes were simply fascinating. They tell a story about the place. They represent history, folklore and myth. It was wonderful.
